insect control  This is the largest rodent group. The hystricomorpha, or porcupinelike rodents, include the porcupine , capybara, nutria (or coypu), agouti , cavy (including the domestic guinea pig ), mara, and chinchilla , as well as many species whose common names include the term rat (e. G. , the south american bush rat). Rodent slightly larger than the common mouse, found in north america and n asia, also called the kangaroo mouse.

The ability of ants to nibble certain seed structures and then to transport the uneaten portion, usually to a garbage dump outside the ants' nest, is critical to a wide variety of plants, which rely on these ants to disperse their seeds to suitable germination sites. The mouthparts can be modified for both chewing and sucking (particularly nectar) in adults; while larval sawflies are caterpillar-like, other hymenopterous larvae are grub-like. In response, governments have restricted or proscribed many of the most dangerous insecticides, including many chlorinated hydrocarbon standbys: ddt, benzene hexachloride, lindane, aldrin, dieldrin, chlordane, heptachlor, endrin, and toxapheneall powerful, broad-spectrum contact and stomach poisons. There are insects that rest on tree bark that are indistinguishable from tree bark, and insects that rest on rocks that look just like rocks. A virgin female, then, can produce an endless line of sons (and, in the case of pharaoh ants, actually mate with one of her own sons in order to produce females).
