A female tsetse fly produces only a single egg at a time, which hatches inside her body; the growing maggot develops internally and is nourished through a milk gland, which contains not only nutritive substances but the vital symbiotic microbes as well. There are the odd exceptions: belostomatid bugs (toe-biters) eat small fish, large mantids can take on a lizard, mouse, or small bird, dragonfly nymphs have been reported capturing salamanders and tadpoles, and horse fly larvae can kill and consume small frogs, but most insect carnivores feed on other arthropods. The hemipterans are the only insects regarded by entomologists as bugs -- properly speaking, that name belongs to insects with two pairs of wings, the first pair thickened at the base, and sucking mouthparts. Larvae and adults of a species may feed onthe same host; or adults may have strikingly differentfeeding habits from larvae, not feeding at all or using adifferent food source. As always, caution should be used in handling all chemicals including hot water, which can cause serious burns. Then they exude enzymes into and onto prey, converting its tissues to a soup, which is then sucked up. Insect residents -- are actually immigrants from foreign shores. Serious damage can be caused by very few infectedinsects. Environmental unsuitability can take on many forms: extremes of temperature, dryness, or food scarcity are but a few. The subsocial burying, or sexton, beetles provide a case in point. There is more to a cricket's repertoire than the calling song; even for crickets, courtship is a complicated business.
